Power supply - voltage tolerance

I am using a AC/DC power adapter to supply 12V to mini-ITX board, now I am trying to order Nie-battery group with 12V/4500MAH output to supply my computer, the problem is there is no voltage control module to ensure stable 12V output from the battery group, if battery output 10V or 13V to my computer this does not work for me. Does anybody know how to solve this problem? The stable and small power supply unit is critical for my computer.

Hi Tony,

Why are you using a battery? why not use a power supply?

Assuming you have to use a battery, you could either get a 14.4V battery, and use a 12V regulator to step the voltage down, or use a 12V battery with a 12V DC/DC converter. most DC/DC converters are tollerent of a wider input voltage, eg, 9 to 18V.

Hi Matt,

I have no idea of power supply, is it a AC/DC convertor? Would you pls. explain more detail. I don't want to use a AC/DC power as it always need wire.

I will send you an email with my pictures to show my progress, hope to get your comments and help. thkx for ur help!

Re: Power supply - voltage tolerance

Ok,

iC is a wired system, before iC existed, it was my hexapod V4b, which was a battery/wireless control system. However, iC was designed not to walk around, so there was no need for batteries or a wireless link.

If you plan on making an iC clone which is wireless, this shouldn't be a problem, the only additional hradware required woudl be a wireless video sender for the CCD camera and a wireless data link for the control system. This is possible to impliment on iC, however, as mentioned before, I decided to make him a fixed exhibit to avoid having to deal with battery changes!

Hello Matt,

Now I understand... I'v sent my pics to ic.hexapod@gmail.com, today i redesigned the mainboard frame, i cut frame from an old desktop calendar, not a good look but do save money. I take more pics today, share with you.

Thanks for help.
