hexapod mechanical design
hi,
your hexapods are just great! They are the best ones that I have ever seen.
I want build an hexapod with a mechanical design like hexapod V3, have you some advice or can you give me some kind of information about its leg design?
Thanks.

re: hexapod mechanical design
Many people seem to want the guide to base their designs on, I will send you a copy, but should you create a hexapod based on my designs, I would appreciate it if you would give your designs origins a mention, and also send me a picture of your design which I may post on my site.

If you agree I will email you a copy.

cheers,

Matt.

re: hexapod mechanical design
Hi, im currently researching hexapod robots for my 3rd year uni project (build and program a hexapod robot with terrain adaptation), and your hexapod version 3 and 4 are both amazing! is there any chance at all I could get the designs? I currently use solidworks if you have CAD files...Id also be interested to know the cost of building one of these robots...i have been given a budget of £300 by the uni and im prepared to spend some of my own cash, though all materials and electronics will be free so only the servos have to be accounted for. thanks, alex.

re: hexapod mechanical design
i am in almost the exact same position myself!!!
i am trying to do a pack hunting project, that uses terrain and other surroundings to generate a "battle plan" for two or more of my "pretators" to chase after a "prey". originally i was going to use a tank of some sort, but then determined that it was not sufficient for the strafing and stalking motions that real pretators use to hunt down prey.
anyways, your hexapod ver 4b seems to be the perfect platform for my project, and it would be of great help if i could purchase, or somehow recieve a kit/ plans to make a few of my own hexapods. anyhting you could sling my way would be of great help, and of course micromagic would recive ample credit where credit is due!

Hi, I've just bought my first robot, the CH3-R by Lynxmotion.
I think I'll spend some nights awake on it....
Anyway, your hexapod design is so great and I'd like to apply it to my new toy..
Can I have some guide or doc too?

re: hexapod mechanical design
Hi Andrea,

As you have already purchased the hexapod, I guess you mean you would like to make it move like mine, as opposed to look like mine?

If so, there are some details of the engine I use under the robotics section of theis page. I am also working on the p.Brain whcih should be able to handle most hexapod robots, but is still in development.

cheers

re: hexapod mechanical design
indeed I'd like to have your whole hexapod.... ;-)

No, I meant: I'll play with mine at first, keeping it as it is.
But I want to play with a different look, less "rounded", more natural. And as I'm in love with your design why not to apply your "case" to my servos/elecronics?
So: do you have a technical sketch with dimensions and so on? Of course is you want to share, I understand if not!
Ciao!

Hi Mike,

I just designed a small body to take LM's legs, and I would also be interested in the guide you speak of.

I've been looking for your PDFs on IK and Gesture, but Haven't found them. Could you point me to them or email them as well?

Thanks,

For the PDF take a look at the terrain adaptation link in this forum.

I well email the guide.

re: hexapod mechanical design
Hi guys,
I was away from robotics since some months but this new beautiful version of ic hexapod remember me my wish to have this kind of bio-inspired robots walking in my office :) I have some time and some money to spend in this development but to be honest, i would greatly appreciate if i could reduce the mechanical conception time, thanks to the help of your design guides, to focus on walking algorithms ( neuro-fuzzy based ). Please be sure I will mention your intellectual property on any document related to my bot. Maybe could someone be also interested in my work on fuzzy algorithms and in this case, I will share my researches with pleasure...
Thanks for creating so nice robots and sharing your ideas :)

re: hexapod mechanical design
Hi Pascal,

I will send you the V2b design guide, its quite an old design but it may help. Also I may look at doing a small run of the V4b hexapod aluminium parts only. If your interested let me konw.

I may also release a bare version of the p.Brain controller board. See my reply to the post titled "re: controlling 18 servos" for more details.

cheers

Re: hexapod mechanical design

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your help, I'm sure even the V2 can help me as I'm not very confident on mechanical aspects.

If you mean you plan to produce small series of aluminium, yes I'm definitely interested and I'm ready to pay the price for such a quality. Please send me details on my mail when you will be ready for this.

Concerning controller I should be able to have my own version, certainly based on a fgpa, a small pluto board coming from http://www.fpga4fun.com/ ( good place for those who want start development with fpga )

I'm curious to know if you plan to setup something like a community around your hexapods. I mean a way ( on your site for example ) to share controller or additional sensors boards or program sources for hexapods based on your design. If it's in your plans, please let me know,I will contribute with pleasure :)

Regards,

Pascal

Hi Pascal,

I probably will set up a community for my hexapods as soon as I sell any kits or controllers. I will probably do this on another website such as hexapodrobot.com. I will appreciate the help if/when it happens.

cheers.
