Miniature linear motors
These squiggle motors which a colleague of mine has just told me about look very interesting. The only draw back I can see with them at the moment is that the drive electronics are so much larger than the motors! Has any body used these yet?

A couple problems you should be aware of regarding the squiggle motors:

1. They cost over $500 each
2. They have very limited range of motion
3. They need fairly complicated drive electronics

If it weren't for #1 I think I could find some uses for the buggers - but that price range just makes them impractical for my purposes.

Thanks for the update Mike.

I have been wondering about the price.

I was already aware of the complex electronics, but I guess this will get better the more they are adopted.

What were you using them for?

Matt.

Hi Matt - I was looking into using them as a replacement for the servo motors on my hexapod robot. Designs with them never got off the drawing board though as the price was so astronomically high.
